How disgusting can a mattress get?
Have you ever thought about how many skin cells a person loses per hour? Millions!
These skin cells normally stick to the surface of the sheets, but they can also mix with the fibres or with your sweat.
That’s how they get into the mattress. In other words, the mattress also needs some attention every now and then.
For people who are allergic to house dust mites, this is obviously not at all nice, so they have to pay particular attention to a clean mattress. – especially because dust mites are very keen on your skin!
Do you often wake up in the morning with a stuffy, runny or itchy nose or do your eyes hurt? Then it could be that these little monsters live in your bed.
Mattresses become twice as heavy every 10 years
Maybe you have never thought about it, but it is true that the weight of a mattress doubles every 10 years. Maybe your mattress does too.
This includes the accumulation of human hair, skin cells, mould, bacteria, dust and dust mites, and then the excrement of dust mites and dead bugs. Sounds pretty disgusting, doesn’t it? But don’t worry. It’s very easy to clean a mattress and you can do it yourself.
With these three steps you can clean your mattress very quickly and easily.
- You’ll need this:
- Baking soda
- A vacuum cleaner
- A damp cloth
Step One
Start by vacuuming your mattress thoroughly. This will remove the dust and dirt on your mattress and prevent it from getting into the mattress. However, make sure the vacuum cleaner is clean before you use it on the bed, otherwise the mattress will only get dirtier.
Step Two
Baking powder will get rid of all those unpleasant odours – and it’s available in every supermarket! The baking powder works by itself, pulls out odours, moisture and dirt and makes the mattress fresh and clean again.
Step Three
Stains on the mattress are best treated with a damp cloth. Simply apply a mixture of baking soda, water and salt to the stains and leave to soak in for 30 minutes. Then wipe with a cold damp cloth.
These steps also work very well with pillows. However, if you have not cleaned your mattress for a long time, it may be advisable to hire a specialist to clean it. This usually costs around 35 euros.
The above tips can then help you and to look after your mattress properly. If it really old and dirty, you might want to get a new mattress, go over here to learnĀ how to buy mattress online.
